THE GHANA Police Service (GPS) has cautioned members of the general public to forthwith desist from visiting any of the beaches being in the country or risk arrest.
On April 13, Easter Sunday, scores of people turned up at the Chorkor Beach in Accra to mark the Easter festivities despite the directives of government on the suspension of public gatherings and implementation of a partial lockdown of some parts of Accra and Kumasi.
The GPS, in a statement, announced that, in line with enforcing the President’s directives and the Imposition of Restrictions Act 2020 (Act 1012) to the letter, persons found at any of the beaches would be arrested with exception of personnel of security services or essentials service providers.
“In accordance with the Imposition of Restrictions Act 2020 (Act 1012) and consequential orders, the public is to note that gathering at any beach in Ghana amounts to an offence” the statement partly read.
“With the exception of security service personnel or essential service providers whose presence may be needed to provide security or for public safety, all other persons found at any beach from now onward and within the period of imposition on public gatherings and movement will be arrested”, it stressed.
The Service therefore urged the general public to “cooperate with the Police and other security services to help curb the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country”.
