I grew dreadlocks as a symbol of resistance from the system – Ras Mubarak

Member of parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has held a youth dialogue series with Success Book Club at Accra Newtown on 26th January, 2020.
The event was dubbed “Reading your way up”
Per the aim of the club, (eradicating ignorance through reading) the event sought to imbibe the act of reading and not just for the sake of it but it should also materialize in the everyday life of the youth.
According to the lawmaker, he used to grow dreadlocks as a sign of resistance, and that grew from his reading of books – on slavery – which changed his perception.
The most notable of the books he read was Richard Nathaniel Wright’s “Black boy”.
He said “I spend more money on books than clothes”
This was to say how important books are in one’s life irrespective of the position one holds in life.
