Former Arsenal and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has denied attacking Liverpool forwards Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mané over Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
Earlier this week, Egyptian sports website KingFut broke the news that 2008 African best player Adebayor had granted an interview questioning the authenticity of the African best player award.
It was reported that the Togolese striker also went on to take a swipe at the two Liverpool forwards, saying the duo should not be winning the African best player award because they’re not African based. The comments Per KingFut reads
“I distanced myself from African football because of corruption and way of doing things that side.”
“I only honour my country Togo. And if they invited me to any event that has anything to do with CAF I won’t show up because of the leaders of the organisation.
“How is Sadio Mane winning CAF Best Player Of The Year when he’s not African based, Lionel Messi has never won any continental individual trophy in his continent.”
However, the Togolese striker took to his Twitter account to rubbish those claims. He stressed that he hasn’t in anyway granted an interview of that sort.
“My attention was recently drawn to comments, shared by certain media on social networks, made on CAF and on my colleagues Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane,” Adebayor said in a statement on Twitter.
“I would just say that these statements are not mine. I have not granted any media interviews. Always be careful not to post false information.”

The Liverpool duo have shared the last 3 African best player award amongst themselves, with Mohammed Salah winning twice and Sadio Mane once.
