Alhaji Jawula reveals GFA’s intentions to continue the league

Management Committee Chairman of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Alhaji Lepowura MND Jawula has disclosed plans to continue with the 2019/20 Ghana Premier league season despite calls for it cancellation.
The country’s football leagues has been suspended since mid March due to the ban on social gathering by the government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Any hopes of seeing Ghana football return was hampered on Sunday, 31 May when the first gentleman of the country, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo announced that the ban on social gathering, which includes football has been extended to July 31.
Since then, football administrators in the country have called on the FA to cancel the league, but Alhaji Lepowura MND Jawula who’s the Management Committee Chairman of the Ghana Premier League, has disclosed the FA has no intention to cancel the league.
He also stated that continuing the league will depend on the outcome of the FA’s engagement with Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the government of Ghana for financial support.
“We want to continue the league to avoid legal tussles but that will be contingent on what comes out from our engagement with government [of Ghana] and Caf for financial assistance,” Jawula told Opemsuo Radio.
The FA will make a definite decision on the fate of the league latest by June 30.
